    99 Polaris SLTX 1200 upgrade

Hello everyone, I recently Picked up a 1200 engine for my sltx and I have a few questions before I drop it in.

    - Can I re-jet my 38MM carbs to run the 1200? my current jetting is the "revised" 142, 142, 138.

    - Can I run the stock 1050 CDI until I find a 1200 box? I thought I read that it will run fine, just slightly down on power due to Lower ignition timing.

    Thanks all!

You can run the 1050 cdi with no problem. If you have a black potted cdi box for your 1050 I can reprogram a 1200 curve in it if you wanted.

the easiest thing to do with the carbs would be to get a set of 1200 carbs. They are 40mm carbs. They are all over the place. Very easy to find

How would I know if its “black potted”? I know it has the upgraded ignition.

I have a stator for it, (same stator as a 1050 right?) but ill need to source a flywheel as well. Trying to keep the 1050 as a backup just in case.

Ill look around on ebay for some carbs. Thanks!

look at the end of the cdi where all of the wires come out. Is it black or red?

    Ill check the color tomorrow!

I’m actually trying to find a flywheel that is already “adjusted” for the 1200..

I have a basic timing light but the static timing process scares me!

    Thank you for your help

It doesn’t matter which flywheel you install it will still have to have the timing set and verified. You could get lucky and no changes would need to be made. It’s really not too hard to do even in an sltx hull.

    CDI is black potted.

I guess I can just check timing with my timing light, with the 1050 I just held it at 3,000 and made sure it was in spec. (In the water on the trailer)

I know the adjustment screws are only about 10 degrees of timing, and I plan to run only 93 octane to help my cause!

Iadjust the idle speed screw to get 3000 rpm out of the water. No need to mess with the throttle that way

Thanks for all the helpful tips.

Do you think I could hurt it running the 38mm carbs? I want to give them a shot before I hunt for a good set of 40’s

also how would I go about sending you my cdi.
