When you were building your FZ, do you think your gains were more a result of boost increase, tune tweaks or impeller tweaks? You and I are basically running the same speed, but with me having the 17 lb wheel. So I'm wondering whether boost enhances acceleration more, while the tune (based on timing and air/fuel), along with impeller pitching determines top speed?

Tune tweaks with constant tests to see what works each weekend and then sending the ecu back to Dean for revision. In conjunction with Jim installing my parts and tweaking the prop. I remember several times my rpm was too high or too low and I had to revise both the tune and/or the prop to get it where I felt efficient with rpm vs mph. Adding a higher boost wheel always increased the difficulty on figuring out the right ratio of rpm to speed...The best thing was I read about how a regular boat prop worked and how I wanted the most amount of distance traveled per revolution then it all made sense that I wanted mph to nearly match rpm or even have rpm be a little below the mph you’re running. Example my FZR ran 95.4 at 9450rpm...

From what I’m seeing now the FX with a heavier/longer/different hull needs a bit more rpm to get this big thing moving...

At the end of the day you need a great tuner and great builder. If your prop is installed where it’s putting more drag on the pump bearings you’re going a little slower, if that plate ain’t setup right you’re going slower, if your SC wheel isn’t setup right you’re going slower, etc...

I think there is definitely a lot more physics required to make these things run at optimal level. I actually think there is more involved with dialing in pwc vs any of my high HP vehicle builds. Damn you FL boys.
