Need an engine for an 08 FXHO! What engines are interchangeable??
Hey guys, new to the forum.. I recently picked up a ski cheap, with a blown engine.. Looking for a long block.. (Holes in case and busted head)
Will the VX cruiser block work? IF so, does anyone have one for sale or know where to get one?
I know SBT sells longblocks, but i dont want to spend 3Gs on a engine from a company i dont trust..
THANKS!

2008 FXHO is the FX160 engine (1052cc) which is the same displacement as a VX110 engine. The 140 is different.
refer to this thread:

The gist of the thread is, you can use the VX block with some changes. Can you salvage 3 out of 4 pistons and rods and the camshafts? If so, if you have a vx110 running long block you can make it happen with minimal ebay purchases (a rod and piston). I am going down this road at some point for my conversion GPR because I simply can not find a reasonably priced FXHO motor in central GA.

Okay cool. SO I have 3 rods and pistons that are OK. crank is toast. Will the external shit just bolt up to the VX block? and besides the cams, the heads are identical?

Dude the link I posted goes into every single detail. There are a few mods to the block. Even if you have to sign up at.pwctoday to see the pics, its 100% worth your time.

Personality I wouldn’t resurrect the MR1 HO motor. My “opinion” is that Yamaha pushed the MR1 platform just a tad too far with the 160HP output. If you want an MR1 that will last, you are better off with a 110HP MR1 (which were on the slower VX skis). Oh, and the SBT “clone” MR1’s (HO) were complete junk – went thru three in a row less than 10hrs each over a span of 6 month, all different failures – circlip on wrist pin, cam sprocket pulled off the exhaust cam, & the 3rd one had a failed crank bearing . . . fool me once I say. And yes I am a very very competent wrencher.
That said, the title of your thread says “what engine are interchangeable” . . .
Well, Yamaha pretty much retains the same engine mount to drive coupler offset geometry for all it’s 4-stroke engines (MR1, 1.8L, TR1) regardless of year/models - which means you can swap full motors between these hulls with minimal mods. That said, a different engine swap turns into more like a “hull-swap” if you look at it from that perspective. Example: in order to drop a 2012 1.8L VXR engine into my 2005 FXHO, I had to bring the full electrical harness/ecu, engine mounts & bumpers, the IB/mid-shaft, couplers, pump drive shaft, impeller & stator, waterbox/lock. So this was more like swapping hulls than engines.
