The 19 grate has a wing to help feed the pump better and is dirt cheap ($60 or so). You could cut the center bar out of it.

The handling and ride quality in rougher water is so much better with the 2019/riva plate. Speed should be about the same but everything else will be better. It’s not all about straight line speed all the time

Id agree on cutting the bar out of the grate, I have it on and im sure its one of the reasons my ski cavitates badly on launch. Im just replacing it with the Riva tho.

I had plans to modify my 2019 grate if I had any issues. At $60 it doesn’t seem like a terrible experiment. For sure going to try it unmodified first

You sure it is cavitation, not ventilation?

I had a fairly small air gap in the sealant where the transom plate joined the intake grate and it greatly reduced acceleration from standstill. Once the hull gained some forward speed the jet pump inlet zone would pressurize and proper thrust would begin.

Removed and resealed the transom plate to hull, and I made sure everything forward of the impeller was properly sealed, especially the intake grate to transom plate. Problem went away.

Tip: If the intake grate rear face is not well sealed to the transom plate, especially around the curved upper rim where the water path joins the transom plate, the jet pump can ventilate.

Air can be drawn up from behind the intake grate where it meets the ride plate. The OEM rubber sealing strip sometimes does not provide a complete air tight seal, so air from above the ride plate can get drawn forward and then up behind the intake grate, and into the water flow path.

Filling the voids in the rear of the intake grate can help with the sealing.

Very sure, my transom was re-sealed when i changed out the grate, also we completely filled the oem 19 plate as a pump seal kit would. Ill have photos of this grate side by side with the riva next week! It really is restrictive untouched
