    2010 yamaha sho clutch

    Hi guys,

I've had my 2010 ski since new, early days the original clutch blew, prob cause I used synthetic oil and no blow off valve in choppy conditions. Motec and high boost wheel Went at 50 hrs., power was there then next it was gone like learner mode. Shop put new clutch in 2011 so original model.

ski is back to standard with just the Watson inter cooler and stage one mods.

its run great past 7 years, just a family play thing now,got 200 hrs on it due to the ski only getting out several times a year past few years.

now, ski runs good, supercharger had the normal clutch rattle for abit when the motor shuts down. Bearings spinning down

last 2 times it went out, this month the super charger sounds a lot louder, actually when at idle has a nice louder traditional charger sound , still makes boost and pulls hard but it's never sounded like this before.

one thing I have noticed, when the engine shuts down that roller bearing sound that used to run for several seconds is not there either.
motor shuts down instantly and all is quiet from the charger .

can these clutches lock up, still spin and make boost but not disengage or something like that ?

still seems to run good on the water, but should I keep using it till no power happens and change or don't use the ski?

    cheers

There are a mix of clutch failures and a couple of other possible issues

with motor off! pop the intake hose off and see if wheel spins freely one way and not the other that will tell you if the sprag bearing is working properly.

if itís failed the main symptom is always I think a lack of boost sometimes itís no boost others itís low boost

i'd probably just ride it until it breaks again, no point taking it out when it could last another 50 or 100 hours. I had a brand new 2016 clutch break within 100m of leaving skinners park at logan river

If you can't hear it spin down...it wont be long before it fails. By the time you get the new one it will probably be go e...so go ahead and get the new one.

    Yep , same here.lol
picked up ski after heaps of mods done, high boost Motec , went unreal for 2 rides,
then put it in at skinners park as well , to take a mate for a 80 mile hr blast and second hard run after second bend past the golf course clutch went out, that was 7 years ago.

new clutch in, I think now ill just wait to it fails, took it to tipplers yest and went well, but still sounds diff. Called the guys at shoreline and they said just ride it till it goes out.

    Cheers

Mates have had the clutch lock up in the past
    Bearing cages were completely gone
I wouldnít like that getting in the oil
    Do what someone else said
And pop the filter off and see if wheel is solid both ways

GCWR will see you a new clutch way Cheaper than Shoreline
    From what Iíve been told
And just remember you need the newer idler gear
Or I have a second hand old style that you can have

Doing my clutch now. Brought replacement today. $516 with gasket. I also noticed a sound change, at idle though.
