    Fx Svho keel wear

Hey guys, I have a 2016 svho, I had a look under the ski the other day and noticed it had worn through the gelcoat and into the fibreglass (correct me if I'm wrong ,not sure on how the nanoexl works) so I'm going to put a keel shield on because I don't want to wear right through. I have attached some photos. My question is do I need to repair/repaint the wear marks first or will it be ok to put the keel shield on top? I don't ride my ski onto the beach or trailer I pull it up by hand and these marks are from that and the ski sitting on the sand with other boats wakes ect.

I would agree, this looks like normal (Yamaha)wear, and not abuse.
One of the issues (and this is NOT unique to your situation) is that Yamaha's do not have Gel Coat'ed hulls. It's just a single-stage paint, and contact with the sand along with repeated wave-action is plenty abrasion to do what you see. And while the paint layer is soft, the SMC is a bit tougher and quite thick at that location. So, aside from looking an eye-sore, your craft is not at-risk. Looks worse than it really is - especially since your paint is black and well smc is white.

    Welcome to the board!

Correct - you'll be fine, because the SMC is waterproof - while the same cannot be said of ordinary "fiberglass" composites (polyester-based).

Why not get an anchor and tie your Waverunner up in 2-3 feet of water? I just buy the screw-in dog anchors.
