Ordered the grate/plate combo and bigger mounting brackets from GH.

Is there any worth while benefit to sharpening leading edges and smoothing / polishing the grate and plate? I see some guys doing this if they have time. Mostly the edges of the scoop fin and the actual grate bars.

I’ll probably be filling bolt holes too as well as DIY filling the cavities on the intake grate. Any preferred material? I see guys using everything from epoxy, no window silicone, to flex seal. I’ll protect the bolt heads and probably just silicone over those. But for the cavities that’s a little hard to get it all to dry. Think of covering the cavities in foil or wax paper and filling it so I’m basically making custom removable stuffer plugs.

Care to elaborate? There’s another thread on here where a guy discussing doing it cuz he’s bored in the winter and nobody told him not to.

You can do the trailing edge if you're bored. But that is it or you will ruin the grate.

After more digging for info I found some stuff about making shaping them so I will not be sharpening the fronts! I don’t know why the other guy was encouraged to do so he made them like razor sharp.


I just got my shipping notice this morning hoping it’s both plate and grate!
