Hey guys, just poking my fat head in here. Does this "piston/ring/detonation" issue involve the 17' Ultra LX at all? Thank you!

No it doesn't- the LX uses the non-supercharged version of the 1500 engine. It is a much lower stressed format.

I'd say there was something else wrong in the engine for 3 failures. I can't get one of mine to fail. We have 3. One with about 200 hours of race and hard rec riding. None of mine are stock either, turning about 8k rpm on all 3. We usually have to get rec 90 when we refill on the water, so I ride in moderation when I have to do that.

Makes me ill to see these failures tho.

But I would ask to see the piston that comes out of yours to see.
my 16 broke a ring land and my 17 burned one from detonation.
One guy here said his did it 3 times. Doubt they kept putting the same pistons back in.

Both my 310's ran nothing but 90 rec or 93pump.
Maybe the humidity and temp in south Florida affects the ski's or fuel? I have no clue but they do fail a lot more down here. I have a couple buddies that have had the same issue as me with low hours.
The reason I feel it's a piston issue is put over 300 hours on a 2015 310x with 300 pistons and no issues. I also ran my 2011 300x to 265 hours and my 2015 ultra LX has 260 hours no issue. Same fuel, same rider. The only variable is the pistons and riding in south Florida.

if was just mine I could understand it was just a bad batch of fuel and running hard, but my wife’s 16’ lost a piston and she’s never run WOT....and it’s still limited.
it also had 93 in it from a land station when it happened.

Here is a pic of the failed piston on my 2018 310x. It has 30 hours and has been using oil and smoking since the 10 hour service. Dealer says ringland failed and cause the ring to wobble and erode the rest of the piston, It also damage cylinder wall. Kawi is replacing the block and installing 300 pistons. I'm glad Kawi is standing behind the ski but I am beyond frustrated with these problems!!!!
