2018 310 bad pistons!! Not this again!!!!!

Well my 2018 310 with 30hours has been sitting at the dealer for over a month now. It was pushing oil into the intake and losing huge amounts of oil. They found the #3 piston failed.
This is my second 310 this has happened too it makes me sick to my stomach!!!!
On the 2015 310 dealer rebuilt the engine at 40 hours with 300 pistons and I had no issues when I traded it with 350 hours. When is Kawi going to fix these 310 pistons!!!!!!

Ugh! Not that it makes a difference Double Tap, but I am curious. Of those 30 hours, how hard has the Ski been ridden? Are you WOT most of the time? Cruising? JB

Double- If I remember correctly, you ride in the Charlotte Harbor/Pine Island/Gulf of Mexico area. I ride out of the Fort Myers Beach area and I can't find fuel on the water with a 91 octane rating. I know the supercharged Kawi engine requires this. Where do you find the necessary fuel?

The ski has been having issues with oil consumption since around 10-15 hours. I had my shoulder replaced in December of last year so I really haven't been riding it hard. Few open burst runs here and there but it was a pretty easy 30 hours. It had it's 15 and 25 hour service performed at the dealer. My last 310 was ridden harder after the rebuild it never had a engine issue even at 350 hours!!!!
I don't live on the water anymore and this ski has had nothing but 93 octane since new. FYI The ski only requires 90 octane and almost all the water stations by me have 90 rec fuel.

Pro1200: I drop in at Punta Rassa and run mostly in the Gulf. I'm at Fort Myers Beach all the time. I have a 2015 Ultra LX as a back up. It has 260 hours runs like a top!!!!

These 310s require fresh high octane fuel, more so that any other. That means that they can burn a piston even with 93 if it sits too long. How long that is is anyone’s guess. I would like to see how much octane is lost over time.
that said, Kawi needs to do whatever it takes to make this motor less dependent on octane, even it means slowing it down.

    I personally think it's a piston issue.
That's why Kawi was putting 300 pistons in 310 skis with piston issues. Tecnically with the higher compression of that piston it would require a higher octane than the 310 piston. Yet the 300 piston doesn't fail when installed in a 310. The new design ringland is most likely the issue.

There's something wrong if a stock jetski requires 93 octane to run without failure. It's hard enough to find 91 premium on the water, 93 forget it.

from what I’ve seen, it WAS a piston issue until the 17s. I think they updated the pistons in 17. Before that they had both issues, bad pistons and detonation issues. Now I think it’s just the detonation problem.
But I would ask to see the piston that comes out of yours to see.
my 16 broke a ring land and my 17 burned one from detonation.
One guy here said his did it 3 times. Doubt they kept putting the same pistons back in.

Well, there is still a "randomness" to this issue that is not completely understood (at least not by me). Not every 310 has a piston issue. So that leads you to "what are all the variables that can cause this"? I have 20 hours my 2015. And 20 hours on the 2017. The hours on the 2017 have been mostly heavier throttle hours, by virtue of where I ride the 2017.

By early next Spring both of these Skis will get to 50+ hours pretty quick. The 2014 310 has over 100 hours on it, so I guess that Ski is immune? We'll see. JB
