1999 slx Flywheel
First things first the gas tank in a slx wont come out of the front compartment.
Also does anyone have any ideas for removing the flywheel I tried it counter clockwise and it didn't budge. Maybe it has reverse threads?

Why won't it come out??
Did you remove the hood and fuel sender assembly?
The tank has probably done some "swelling".
To remove the flywheel you don't need to remove the tank anyway BUT I'd sure like to know why the tank won't exit the hole.

I disconnected everything and it just doesn't fit through the hole. I'm still at a loss of how to remove the flywheel. How should I secure it so it doesn't spin while removing the nut?
Also I wrenched it pretty hard counter clockwise the nut didn't budge maybe reverse thread?

Maybe with the gas tank I can twist it and pull it out sideways instead of strait out now there's a thought!

The threads are right hand...it's probably just tight. You can put a rope down the front cylinder's spark plug hole. Feed as much in there as it will take, then roll the motor over counterclockwise until it stops. It'll bunch up above the piston and allow you to hold the motor still. Then put your wrench on there and loosen that nut.

I'd bring the piston to TDC and then lower it about 1 inch, them stuff in the rope.
I've seen where one guy left the piston down and the rope went into one of the intake or ports and damaged a reed or something odd like that. Not 100 percent sure but I'd try to leave the piston up high.

Well the rope worked like a charm no complaints there. Nut came off after a little cheater bar application and with a little help from the harmonic balance puller the flywheel popped off. Now I'm down to the stator would have done it last night but the women stepped in and you all know how that goes I will post more when I get there!
