Thread: Gasoline choice

    Gasoline choice

    Hi all!

I was wondering... We have 2 options regarding gasoline here in europe: you can either choose the normal, 95-octane fuel or premium 100-octane. Would the 100 octane be MUCH better for the engine (since there is the knock problem) or is the 95 octane enough? What is your opinion?

    Thanx

    Alex

It could help, depending on what is causing it, but you will need to drain the existing fuel from the system first. If it's just high compression than it should help, but if the timing is to far advanced, excess carbon getting hot, or no quench area in the head due to milling, it prob. won't.

    1. What kind of Kawasaki Jet-Ski do you own?
    2. If it is a Supercharged Model - you will obviously need the better octane of the 2 available to you.
    3. If it is a 2-Stroke Machine - what is the measured compression ratio?
    4. Where in Europe are you located?
    5. Do your Retail Fuel Outlets measure Octane by: Octane = (R+M)/2 - I believe R = Research and M = Measured.
    6. Curious what currency you use and how much it cost per measured amount (Litre or Gallon)

    Good Luck !!!

    PS - Here in USA we are presently paying ~ $3.00 usd/gallon (0.75 Euro/Litre)

Most places in Europe measure octane differently. Those numbers are more like 86/87 and 91/92 in the US. You will likely need the higher octane.

Probably the best thing to do is to see if your 'Ski has a sticker near the fuel filler cap. Or, get a European owner's manual and see what is recommended.

    1. I have a Kawasaki ultra 300X
    2. Yes, It's supercharged - 100 octane then?
    3. I also own an ultra 150, worx fine with 95 octane fuel
    4. Slovenia, the Jet in Croatia
    5. Don't know sorry... But the octane ratings are being inspected by the government...
    6. It's measured in litres, and it costs 1.5 eur/l for 100 octane and a little less for (around 1.4 eur/l) 95 octane fuel.

    Thanx

PS: Your prices are INSANELY low compared to us... Lucky

Hi, I'm from Europe as well - Malta. I have always ran my 2016 310R on the 98 octane fuel we have here. I am saying this as since its a small island we only get one brand. Either 95 or 98.

I'm now on 87 hrs and no issues with it.

In Malta 98 octane costs €1.51 per litre.

You can add your location to your profile.

Click on My Profile in top right corner of the web site.

That way others can easily see where you are located and perhaps better understand and respond to thangs that vary by region.

I suggest all GH members do this, whether inside or outside the USA. Reduces confusion and no need to guess or assume where someone is asking about.

Thats almost equivalent to $7.00 a gallon. There would be riots in the streets if gas ever got that expensive here.
