    New or used?

2019 FX is an all-new FX hull and top deck design. Both HO and SVHO versions.

What kind of water do you ride?
Ocean, lake, river? Boat chop or fairly smooth?

    How long do you ride?
Is fuel economy or cruise distance important?

    Is 91 octane gasoline available?
SVHO requires 91, the HO requires 87 octane.

If rapid acceleration isn't that important to you the HO would probably be fine. Try to ride both before you buy....not after...

I had a Kawasaki 300X and now a Yamaha FX. I did not need the 300 power and I am perfectly content with the FX. I am in California where you cannot buy good gas and this always worried me although I no problems with the Kawasaki. I prefer the FX but I am an old guy and don't need to rip my arms off with the high HP stuff. I cruise the Colorado and the socal shoreline and so far very happy with the fx. The FX is a leftover 18 I bought about 1.5 months ago and got a good deal from pacific Motorsports. My only complaint is the FX has a slight leak that I cannot find so far, small amount of water in rear bilge after a couple of hours or riding. I am surprised at the overall power and comfort of the FX.

There is a known problem with the factory sealant on the transom plate. At speed the water pressure going through the jet pump can force a dribble of water past the sealant and it weeps into the hull around the openings for the water hoses.

When just floating and running at low speeds the sealant tends to not leak into the hull.

It can be corrected by removing the transom plate and resealing with better sealant. It is annoying that Yamaha does not use a better sealant from the factory, but the upside is that the leak generally is minor and if it gets worse, tends to do so gradually.

I have posted a how-to repair thread elsewhere on GH.
