Question Changing the gas tank on a 1999 SLTX?

I'm looking at a 1999 SLTX. The owner says the gas tank is leaking but he already has a new tank. How hard of a job with this be? Will I need to split the shell?

More likely the motor will have to be pulled to swap fuel tanks.

I cannot say for sure on the 1999 model, but on the 97 and 98 (basically the same) the engine doesn't need to come out.

The tank will come out the hood when the fuel sender is removed from the tank.

It's not easy, but is doable.
