    2003 Virage i EMM or external component issue?

    Hello all, and thanks for all the great info! New member; long time reader of various posts.
    '03 Virage no start w/o spraying fuel into air valves then will run with throttle until you let it try to idle, then it dies. Above 500 RPM EEM removes two 7 VAC stator coils from series configuration and out of water idle RPM should be approx. 1150 correct? All 5 stator coils in series during start and below 500 RPM. Tach signal wakes system, but see no tach signal on display during cranking after wake up. EEM generates tach signal so is this the dreaded C89, or power side issue? I know there have been many discussions, but I haven't found one quite addressing this issue. Also 45 v coils go parallel after 2500 as I understand and this ski has no high rpm issues.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    BTW, typically how long does it take to remove boards?

    Readings are as follows:

    Lead resistance of 2 ohms subtracted from all resistance readings.

    Term # Res. (ohms), Cranking Vac (O.C.), Cranking Vac (Connected), Running Vac (Connected)

    1-12, .5, 10.66, 10.37, 16.07
    2-11, .5, 10.78, 10.64, 16.06
    3-10, .3, 7.13, 7.80, 39.62
    4-9, .3, 7.04, 7.88, 39.86
    5-8, .3, 6.97, 7.87, 39.82
    6-7, N/A, N/A, N/A, N/A

    All pins O.C. to ground.

    Battery 12.6 Vdc with greater than 10.7 Vdc cranking.

    Wht/R cranking 10.10 Vdc @ no start; 20.19 Vdc when it would occasionally fire off momentarily; 45.15 Vdc running while blipping throttle to keep running. Seemed fairly linear build-up of voltage to max.

    Looks as if all inputs from stator are good.

    Welcome to GH!

    Your stator/flywheel results seem to indicate that they are both fine (although your voltages are higher than expected). Therefore you most likely have an issue with the EMM power board side. Lakeside Tech can help, I think we already talked briefly?

    Maybe we did. I believe you are correct on the power side issue, but what components control rpm switching of stator windings? I looked at possible schematic of power board and see no logical rpm switching schema. Can you elaborate on the rpm switching procedure of this circuitry? I worked on SONAR & military missile systems in USN and believe with a little insight I can figure this out.

    Thanks HiPeRcO, I see I'll need to do some studying of the logic circuitry to determine exact cause as power devices seem intact and no signs of failure visually indicated. Isolation and testing of individual power components seems to be required, but I believe C29 may be suspect.

    I have never seen a bad C26, for what its worth.
