    951 billet head tuning

    Hey everyone, I have a '98 XPL that I'm thinking about going with a ADA billet head and 46cc domes. I know that I will have to go up to 100 octane not to ping, but what carb settings are you guys running with these? What jets/turns and pop-off?

    I would install that head with a stock head gasket and orings. Then not worry about using high octane. Instead run premium gas from local station. For the most benefit of upping compression, you will need to replace the stock airbox with open flame restorers. Change out the stock 80 or 82.5 pilot jet with a larger 85. The 160 or 162.5 main needs to be upped to at least a 165. Set low speed needle at 1 1/2 truns out and high speed leave shut. This works if stock accelerator is still installed and properly working and adjusted. Some have gone with a larger main if detonation is noticed or open high speed needle up 1/4 turn out. You have to go with a larger needle/seat. Replace the existing 2.0 with a NEW 2.3. Using the existing stock spring will get the correct pop off needed. Your motor needs to be in good working condition to really step up the power. Also check you raves on exhaust. Make sure your impeller is not damaged and wear ring in in like new condition.

    Thank you so much for the insight! I already have a R&D flame arrester and I am jetted for those per the specs in Ben's mods.

    Oh and I'm also running a solas 15/20 impeller with a new wear ring. Top end was just rebuilt with only 5 hours on the rebuild.
