    Left-Handed Winch?

Fulton used to sell left-handed winches. I'm going to build a couple of double trailers and it would be nice to have a left-handed winch on the starboard side of the trailer. The right-handed winches can be easily converted to left-hand by swapping the spool, gears, & ratchet from one side to the other--EXCEPT a different spring is required. Fulton used to provide the left-hand spring in their ratchet repair kit, but they say it's obsolete now.

I called them yesterday--and today. I'd have to say that their customer service line is worthless. I pushed '1' for English and waited for about 45 minutes for someone to answer. They give you the option of leaving a message and they'll call you back, except that it never switches over to the recording. Finally, somebody picked up! It was a recording in Spanish! All kinds of button pushing resulted in nothing. I hung up and called back this morning. An operator answered and I told her my problem, including part numbers. She said that they were all obsolete and she would transfer me to someone in the 'technical' department. I hung up after waiting 20 minutes.

Does anyone have any ideas on where to get a left-hand spring for one of these? I've contacted about a dozen dealers and nobody can help.

I guess I can wind my own spring, if it comes down to that.

My 2017 Triton WC2-2 came with Knott brand winches. The crank handle can be mounted on either side of the winch, held in place with a single nyloc nut.

    Looks very similar to this

I finally heard back from somebody at Fulton. They said I was S.O.L. I don't understand this at all. Surely there are enough double PWC trailers around to warrant manufacturing a backwards spring, which is the only difference between the left and right versions. What a pathetic company!

    Hey, thanks, HDAV!

There's a chance that I might be able to use one of the Dutton Lainson springs in my Fulton. If all else fails, I might try making my own spring.
