who can record engine sound...?
can any of you guys audio record your engine running on the hose? I don`t need to hear the exhaust tone, I`d like to hear the engine itself. Mine is a little noisey and I need something to compare it to?
I can not isolate this sound, does it at all RPM`s and considerable amount of vibration, what could it be?...PR...

old racer trick
take a long screwdriver and put it to your ear. You it to listen to different parts of the engine running. put the blade end to the valve cover, blower any part. You will hear noise and rattles and anything that sounds funny will give you a better idea of where to look for trouble.
This method works well for bearing noise also.

Hi Shawn, yeah, I know that trick, had stethescope until I lost ear piece, lol.
anyway this thing is loud, the WHOLE engine is loud. If it were a rod knock I`d think I`d be able to distinguish which cylinder but no,
I don`t know what noises are considered normal for the 4-tec anymore since things have escaladed...PR...

our skis will run on 1 cylinder no problem, two it will do with ease..
make sure she's running on all three first as that could be a source of vibration...
start the ski up on the trailer, u dont need a hose or anything, just start it and let it idle for 10 seconds and then one by one just unplug the connector going into each coil... u'll hear and feel a difference if u unplug a cylinder that was firing... if u pull a plug and hear and feel no difference than it's not running... it's worth a shot
u dont need the hose or anything, just start it and let it run, they can run plenty of time with no damage with no water for diagnostic purposes.. this will take you all of 30 seconds to do

gotcha... ski pulls to strong to be plugs or coils I would think.
more noise than performance issue...PR...
