    2011 Yamaha FZS - reverse mechanism ?

My FZS with 41 hours has always run great with aftermarket intake grate and pump kit.

This year the Reverse mechanism is very difficult to operate - it fells like it is binding up within the shift mechanism.

Pull handle and slide are free of rust and there is no corrosion

Inspection of rear plate deflector is fine - all points of friction are lubricated and free of issues.

Hard to see any problems under the hood and seat

Please advise if anyone has had this same problem and possible next steps

Unfortunately, taking into account of the age, it is very likely that the reverse cable is deteriorating. So while the core cable is stainless steel, sheathing is usually what rusts, and when it does, it expands/contracts onto the cable core hindering movement. That a long-winded explanation of saying you likely need to replace your cable.

    Tip :
Unless you want to replace cables every 5 years, a tip I learned on this forum & practice annually, is to back-force (inject) a slurry mix of marine grease and 2-stroke oil inside the full length of these control cables. Load it into a grease-gun, adapt a length of hose/tubing to the gun tip, then insert the entire rear cable end into the tube, sealing both connections with small hose-clamps. Now simply "pump" that slurry (slowly) into the cable sheathing until it oozes out the front.

Mine was stiff from the get go when new, I took the slide apart and used moly grease/lubricant on all the moving parts and it made a big difference.
