I have seen a GP1800 globe box with the latch broken. Doesn’t seem common though.

My own GP1800 had not had the glove box pop open by itself, until a couple of weeks ago. I was riding quite fast over wind driven rough water with the trim full down, and lots of hard hull slams into the waves. After quite a while, slowed down to idle, and noticed the glove box was open. No idea how long it was open before I saw it.

I suspect the repeated hull shudders and hull twisting with off center wave impacts somehow jolted the lid and latch repeatedly and strongly enough that eventually it worked open.

How to keep it closed in such conditions? Yet still easy to access...

    Ideas welcomed.

I was messing around with mine trying to see if I could figure out a reason some people have them pop open and happened to break mine. One of the little tabs that hold the latch in place broke off. I bought a new lid and put it on. It was about a 17 dollar piece.

From my experience after some seat time, when the glovebox has something pushing on the back of the lid from the inside, it pops open often. When its not that full im yet to have an incident.

I can can agree with that. I don’t keep much in mine and it’s never popped open

I like it that idea. Found these on Amazon. Looks like they will do the trick. https://www.amazon.com/StayPut-Faste...gateway&sr=8-3

Full or empty I haven't had an issue. 150 hrs on my 18 vxr. I'm wondering if its moulding marks or that the box is torqued some kind of way, like the center console is racked causing this issue. Trip to Bimini and back with a loaded glove box and rough conditions on the return and it never opened.
