    Catch Can Problem

on my 2017 300 RXT-X has 10 hrs. Had this issue last time I checked, so yesterday took the whole system apart, emptied the small amout of oil out of can, resealed the plug, cleaned the filter and put it back together. Oil in engine is in between the 2 marks as it should be.

Took the ski out today and rode it about 12 miles, mostly wot. got it home and had the same issue again. I've had catch cans on all 3 of the S/C skies I have had, and never had one blow out the oil like this. So any one with any ideas, "help"! I have absolutely no clue what the deal is.

Just get rid of the filter and run a line to a thru hull fitting. Its what I did on mine and while I will get a little oil spray near the dump, I just wipe it up with a rag.

Thats interesting, as I had a home built one before, and never had an issue. You and Ihaving the same issue doesn't say much for the catch can

So can I take it that you believe that its blowing out through the filter? I'd think you would get more mess through a through hull blowing that oil out. Where do you have your through hull?

Put a sock over the filter will fix your issue

The 300 is a heavy breathing engine . Some a lot more than others . The riva catch can will give the same result.
Itís actually mounted lower so it may even be worse .
And the fact that you rode mostly wot the whole time will cause a lot more fuel and oil blow by which has to go somewhere so the path of least resistance is out the breather .

Every action has an equal reaction . Removing the oil mess from from the intake tract is the positive reaction. The negative is the oil mist that comes out of the breather.
You could run a hose off the top of the can to a thru hull bilge fitting to vent the blow by out of the ski . That is what I did on my conversion ski .

Some racers mount them up front as high as possible to reduce the amount of oil that reaches the can .

At the end of the day. Itís a blow by issue with the 300 engine .
