Kawasaki 1100 STX DI Conversion to Carbed Motor

After dealing with electrical issues and a very undependable DI, I have begun the process of a carbed conversion. I'll try to keep this post updated along the way. I'm installing a 1998 1100 Kawasaki engine from a donor ski from Arizona. I was able to pick up everything from the previous owner but the hull. And the journey begins.

Carb rebuild kits and new diaphragms for fuel pump case have arrived. Just gotta start that process. In the meantime, I pulled the DI motor and gave the interior of the hull a good cleaning.

This should be good. Thanks for sharing. If you haven't already, you may want to replace your drive shaft bearing carrier since you have the engine out.

I'll be going 40:1 premix on the carbed motor. I've already installed the block off kit.

Should be a worthwhile project. Interesting trick on the primers.

I'd recommend cleaning the dirt out of the fuel rails and replacing the O-rings on them. The needle valve seats use the same O-rings.

First issue of incompatibility. The gas tank necks are different sizes. The carbed tank is smaller. Guess Iíll start looking online for a new rubber hose. Also, you'll need to connect the speedometer plug prior to installing the gas tank because you have to crawl into the hull and lie flat to be able to reach it.

As long as the diameter is the same, it shouldn't be a problem. It looks like there is more than enough surface area on the carb tank filler neck to get a good seal. Not surprised on the part number. The Japanese get maximum life out of their designs with many years of use and across and many products. If you have any doubt on the seal, you could always pressure test it.
