I will see if i can look up the engine serial number online to double check that it is an 05. And I assume the ECU will have a number on it? so I will go look for that tomorrow. By nub do you mean the nub on the cam rotor?

    Cheers

Yep, sorry for being vauge. The cam trigger needs to match what the ecu expects.

Ok I checked over a few more basic things, like the coils are connected to the correct wires on the harness and the spark plug wires are connected to the correct coil locations per the service manual.
    • my HIN comes back as a 2005 STX-15F
    • The ECU has the following numbers on it
    21175-3730
    F8T98072
    4Y19
    The "
    21175-3730" part of this
number matches the parts diagram for my make/model/year, but not sure if the other number mean anything?

    • My cam rotor in the motor appears to match the photo of the 21007-1356 cam rotor, but the parts diagram for my make/model/year list both "21007-1356 Rotor" and "21007-3730 Rotor, Pulsing" How do you determine which one is correct?
    • My motor serial number is JTT50AE00584 (I'm not sure how to look up the engine serial number to find the year)
here are the parts diagrams I found showing the ECU PN and the two cam rotor options

Should I just try the other cam rotor?

    Cheers

The one with the a at the end of the number in the diagram is the crank rotor. Try the other cam rotor/nub and see if it works. Was the engine running before it fell off the trailer?

Well someone deffenitly had the cam timing off, I found all the intake valves bent! The backfires through the intake makes sure make sense now! Anyone got an extra set of valves laying around?

Iíll be putting my engine back together in a few weeks and Iíve never had to time an engine.

I was going to rotate the engine by hand to make sure the piston doesnít clash with the valves before I fire it up.

Any lessons learnt from this that I can take away??

Set the timing by the manual and its not a concern. Even if you are off by a tooth it wont contact.
