Purchase a repair manual. It'll pay for itself on the first repair.

SeaStar SSC12415 Rack and Pinion Steering Cable is very decent for Stainless steel cable output ends.

had his next door neighbor who is an actual mechanic remove it, two years ago.

typically a little penetrating oil and a hair dryer will do the trick

for others interested in replacing steering cable, let me say this, if its your first time, you may want to check with a local shop, who likely will not be too keen on doing the job either.

    difficult job in most cases.

    How to avoid it?

lube the steering cable and be extra careful backing your ski. If there is a cover on it, just a small bump to the back garage wall, or a rolling toolbox can damage the cable and start the countdown to breakage

lube is essential. don't be stingy
