SL750 No Spark
I have a 1993 SL750. Had some work done on it last fall. I put it in the water last week. Ran fine. Went in to pick up a rider and it would not start. The next day, ir fired right up. I ran it for a bit and again, it would not start. Same thing this weekend. I would guess that something in the CDI is over-heating. Any suggestions?

When it won't run, can you turn the engine by hand at the drive shaft?
Or does it crank and just not fire?
Do you have spark when it doesn't run?

It just cranks and will not fire. I check for spark and had none.

Have you tested the stator? It might be getting hot and failing. Maybe time for a new one?.

You need to know if it's ignition or fuel related.
Start with an inline spark tester and verify if you have spark during the non-start.

Recommend getting a service manual.....volt meter and a heat gun or hair drier.
what you are going to need to do is ride the unit till it gets good and warm and then open the electrical box and do tests on the electrical wires from the stator for a bad reading. If you dont have that option then pull the stator cover and flywheel at home and apply heat to the stator coils and test the wires. What you are looking for is readings way off from what the book says.
If this is over whelming take to your local Polaris dealerto test.

Thanks. I called the local dealer, he wants to put a new stator in for $850 parts and labor. The 1993 750 is probably worth less tha that. This machine may become parts for my SL650! Thanks again.

Test the stator, if it's bad, replace it yourself ($100 off Ebay). The repair manual will walk you through it.
