GreenHulk GP1800 / VXR Intake Grate Shootout
I finally got a chance to go to the water and back to back test all three available intake grates for the GP1800 and 2015 and newer VXR skis.
Grates tested were the RIVA Grate, R&D Grate and the WORX Grate. All grates had the optional pump seal kits installed.
All tests were done within 40 minutes or less of one another. All runs were in the same direction on the same waterway.
Tests were conducted with 1/2 tank of fuel
Temperature of todays tests was 77 degrees F
You will notice that acceleration data begins at 10 mph. This is because a jetski is not stationary in the water like a car, so I chose to begin acceleration data at 10 mph.
The GP1800 test ski has the GreenHulk Stage 3 kit on it, with the only alteration to the kit being The Ultimate Air Intake kit, both shown below.
Engine RPM on all tests was 9000
A video overview of all 3 grates can be seen here

The first grate I tested was the RIVA intake grate, this was also our fastest and quickest intake grate.
While our Garmin hand held recorded a max speed of 87.6 mph, the VBox Sport recorded 87.1 mph

Next up was the R&D grate. Our hand held Garmin read 87.8 mph, while the VBox Sport recorded 87.4 mph
This grate was a big faster than the RIVA grate on the first run (above), but has slightly slower acceleration due to more cavitation on hole shot.

Next we tested the WORX intake grate. This grate had quite a bit more cavitation on hole shot than the R&D grate which caused acceleration times to suffer. Top speed was also a little less than the RIVA and R&D intake grates. Top speed recorded on our Garmin was 86.8 mph, while the VBox Sport recorded 87.4 mph

Since the RIVA grate gave the best overall results I decided to put it back on and test it again to see if I could duplicate the numbers from the first run when the ski was cooler. The acceleration and top speed numbers on the heat soaked ski were very close with the Garmin reading 88.0 mph and the Vbox sport registering 87.2 mph

In summary, the RIVA grate provided the best overall performance resulting in better acceleration numbers and top speed numbers.
My feeling is that the better acceleration of the RIVA grate is due to the design of their pump seal kit. It sealed better just by bolting the grate up.
I feel that the acceleration numbers of the R&D and WORX grates could be greatly improved once the intake grate is sealed up with silicone, as should be done.
It's just impossible for me to do a true back to back test by sealing each grate into the hull, letting it dry overnight and testing. Testing needs to be done back to back, within minutes apart if at all possible for a true comparison.
I hope you guys enjoyed the video and the review of each grate. I hope that if you choose to purchase one of these grates for your GP1800 or VXR Waverunner that you choose to shop in the GreenHulkStore.com. Reduced acceleration test results due to air gaps between the intake grate and the transom plate or ride plate (effectively without proper sealing).
For riders more interested in acceleration rather than top speeds, it is still unclear whether any of these three intake grates is noticeably better than the other two.
Essentially the acceleration test results mostly reflect how well the intake grate sealed itself using the factory rubber strip without any other sealant applied. Additional sealing could significantly affect the acceleration ranking.
Owners who are interested in the maximum performance with any of these intake grates would seem likely to benefit from applying additional sealing beyond what the factory rubber strip provides.
For my own GP1800 WORX intake grate I did apply extra sealant to ensure there would be no air leaks. The result was significantly improved acceleration from low speeds with less impeller spinning during launch. I had a couple of small air leaks after the initial install and the effect was quite noticeable. Proper sealing corrected that.
Perhaps what is needed is side by side testing of three very similar GP1800 (say Stage 1 tuned), with a properly sealed intake grate of each type. This would also allow for some rough water ride comparisons, which I would certainly find interesting.

The above results are just baseline numbers, you can expect all three of the above tested intake grates to produce even better acceleration numbers due to reduced cavitation once properly sealed into the hull.

This is some bad ass testing..
The v box is as legit as they come for data testing. Very popular in the 60-130 pulls in the automotive world.
Lol at 7.06 et in the 1/8
That's faster then some bolton Nissan GTRs lmao
