The Riva intake grate would perform worse without the rubber sealing strip in place.

The Worx intake grate install instructions (when using the pump seal kit to fill the intake grate casting voids) recommends that the factory rubber seal have all the fingers sliced off, then the seal is reinstalled with the grate. I imagine the R&D install is similar.

I expect Jerry did this when testing those two grates. No seal at all would simply not work well.

Thats the point MR Helper!!!!! what would be the chart numbers for 10-30mph and the rest off the accel numbers?

I will wait for Jerry's comment.

Such numbers would be of no use. The test results could vary significantly depending on how much of an air gap was present, and that would vary from ski to ski, possibly differing with just a remove and reinstall on the same hull.

I would expect no useful correlation between unsealed intake grate performance and sealed intake grate performance.

I'm glad you asked. The stock grate is terrible and I would not recommend anyone trying to run the stock grate over 80 mph due to serious safety concerns. The stock GP grate is the same exact design that was used on the 2009-2013 FZ skis and we all know that the FZ when pushed more than 72 mph with the stock grate would overstuff and toss the rider.

I noticed on the ride plate you have a block off over the paddle wheel cutout.
Can I buy one from the gh store?
Do you tbink it makes any difference?
Love your fantastic work Jerry... Please keep it coming 
that is a block off plate I made out of a piece of aluminum. It made zero difference in speed whatsoever. I also made one for my FZ... no difference in speed on that ski either.

I'm glad you like the thread, thank you!

I am leaning toward the R&D unit because I believe once you seal it up properly you will see an improvement on the accel numbers and possibly top speed.

Wonder if a back to back test off the RIVA grate without factory seal vs seal would be possible?
That would tell us how much that seal effects the numbers.

Will you be staying with the Riva unit on your ski?
I also think I will see improvements in acceleration numbers and top speed on the RIVA grate once sealed in properly.
I am sticking with the RIVA grate on my ski. It produced best results and it's made out of stainless steel. It's not breaking!!!
At these speeds, I want all the strength I can get. If a grate brakes at 90 mph its not going to be pretty!
