SVHO oil filter comparison. $23 Denso (OEM) vs. $4 Motorcraft FL 910s
I was shocked to see a $23 price on a oil filter for my GP 1800 so I decided to cross reference the oem filter and there are alot of less expensive options out there. The Motorcraft FL-910s is one of those options. For $4 depending on where you buy, mine was at my local RuralKing.
Now before I just slapped on this cheaper filter I wanted to compare it to the oem. I work at a Lincoln dealership so we have a huge bin with used 910's in it from the lube guys. The oem filter came from my ski.
Upon opening both filters my mind was quickly made up. The Denso is cheaply made and worth it's weight in scrap. Take a look at some of the pictures.
Motorcraft on left, Denso on right
The motorcraft has a far better design.
Anti drain back valves, Motorcraft is smaller but still functions just fine.
The denso is nothing more than a cartridge filter
This gap at the end of the seam lets unfiltered oil get by.
If this glue fails and the pleats separate unfiltered oil gets by.
Both units have silicone anti drain back valves and spring loaded bypass valves. I did not measure the pressure of the valves. I also never intend on letting the filter get dirty enough that the bypass valve ever needs to open.
I have about 15 hours on my ski since changing to the 910 filter. No issuesLast edited by K447; 10-31-2017 at 09:47 PM.

motorcraft filters are excellent quality. I would not hesitate to use one on my GP. Currently I am running a napa gold filter. They run about $6.

I have been running the Motorcraft 910s for 2 years on my Yamaha boat. No Issues. I like that it is usually on the shelf at any Auto Parts store.
