2017 Yamaha EX Sport
Hey guys,
My name is Eric and I recently purchased a 2017 Yamaha EX Sport. This is not my first time with a PWC, my family grew up with them, but this is my first personal one. I used to sell Yamaha and Kawasaki PWC at a powersports dealer, so I'm pretty well versed in what's out there. I don't expect to build a rocket or I'd have bought an 1800, but I wanted an inexpensive entry into the lake to enjoy with my girlfriend and son. I plan on building it up a little, nothing crazy, mostly to make my good friend with a Spark jealous.
Quick background; I sell cars for a Chevrolet dealer, I can't leave anything with an engine stock for longer than the break in, I am an Army combat vet, I ride motorcycles, and spend entirely too much time on the internet.

So i did some digging.. The only difference between the TR-1 in the VX and the TR-1 in the EX is the exhaust manifold (called a muffler on yamahapartshouse.com)
Now im wondering if we can swap out the manifolds, maybe they wont fit, i dont know. There is a restrictor plate in the muffler, i know you cant just go removing things without a tune, but i want to squeeze some power out of this EX. At less than 600lbs, it could potentially be a rocket!

part number 8. all you have to do is pull the water box, and 3 (8mm, I believe) bolts and its out. pretty simple. cant really tell a difference in sound.
Im going to mess with the ride plate today or tomorrow, I need to pick up some stainless washers. the plate is not even close to in line with the grate, so a little shimming should go a long way.

None really. Maybe .5 mph, but I only have a phone for GPS and I doubt it's accuracy. It gets up a little better though. If you are turning a little on holeshot it will hit the limiter, and it didn't do that before.
