I am an expert at re-timing now. The IC has to go foward and the nozzle has to come off to get at the nut. I made a TDC tool that I can read while standing behind the ski moving the crank. I am an expert at collapsing the tensioner too.

I actually enjoy working on the skis. I would call Riva or email JesusG and see what he says about your issues. My ski stalled twice fully warmed up. When I was in N going between F -N - R. waiting for a boat to go by. I could tell the idle was low and it wanted to stall.

In which direction was it off, Port or Starboard while sitting above the engine? Or which direction did you move it, port/starboard?

When it was off. At TDC, exhaust cam dot was lined up and the intake cam dot was off to the hull side.

Which way was it off, to the left or the right. More intake timing, or less? Cant really figure a way to word the question properly.

If im remembering the rotation correctly the intake was retarded.

Exactly intake retarded. You are standing at the rear of the ski turning the prop nut counter clockwise. When tdc hits the exhaust cam dot is straight up and the intake cam dot is at 1 oclock. The intake cam was lagging behind a tooth. The dot was off to the right.

So while I was putting in the valve springs we used a leak down guage to air up the cylinders. My ski has 8 hours like new. 3 holes were less then 10 percent but one hole was 70 percent. You could hear the air blowing out the exhaust valve. I will check it again over the winter. Maybe it was rust or dirt on the seat. I will pull the head if it is bad and do some more power mods.

We now about low idle on Yamahas (normally is 1250RPM)...Now I find the map to change the idle on Yamaha ECU so we can change that to 1400rpm ( which is more stable than 1250 )...That will help to prevent stall.

Excellent. Jesus, can you make me a Stage 3 9500 aggressive with 1400 rpm idle? I can test it out this weekend.
