Just dropped off head and we disassembled it. There is minor blending in the ports to do and the combustion chamber has sharp edges around the valves. These will be blended also. The valve job will be redone and move the contact out further on the valve. need to measure lift on cam this weekend.

did u find out what main/rod clearances you ended up with?

  4. #164
Is there a reason people keep asking rod/main clearance? Why would it be anything other then within spec of the manual?

Piston rings I get that we all "want" something different or there is plenty of room for discussion there....

why would it matter? i want to know if he went tighter clearances for his build or looser? everyone does different im just asking if he wants to state what he went with...

    Here are the clearances:

    rod oil clearance .002
    main oil clearance .001
    rod side clearance .006
    crankshaft end clearance .005

The rod clearance was .003 (excessive) as received from other builder.
The main clearance was ok on 3 & 4 but to tight on 1, 2 and 5 as received from other builder.

Once I get the head back we will assemble the long block and do a smoke test for oil leaks. As received from the first builder the engine leaked oil. I think it was coming from the bottom of the generator cover.

Head is ready to be picked up. We are going to check spring pressures and probably adjust. I need to get the lift from the RC-3 cams vs stock SVHO cams. He made lots of small improvements in the head.

I am going to measure it this week. Its easy to measure. Just measure the lobe to base and base circle by itself. Lift is the difference.
