    66v powervalve opening rpm.

Greetings all...just got my gpr back in the water, and I'm chasing a problem with my powervalves. Does anyone know what RPM they open at. I thought it was 5000, but want to make sure. As I understand the function, they open at 5000, and stay open unless you bump the rev limiter, at which point they close to try and limit RPM's. Out if the water if I hold my rpms steady they dont try to open until 6600rpm, and they are erratically cycling. Any thoughts? I caught the problem before my pistons detonated last time, and I don't want it happening
    Thanks. Jack

I've never tried to get the PV's to cycle out of the water, other than testing the servo by momentarily grounding the grey wire to make the servo motor cycle.

    Mine open anywhere from 4500-5000rpm

Maybe try a water test under a load? Don't know if you can get accurate info w no load?

Mark the wheel with something bright where you can see it and take a ride w the seat off. (white-out will work for temp testing)
Just a thought to see if it's erratic then as well?

Jeff....mine seem erratic. Haven't rode it with the seat off yet...I will try and diagnose it Monday. I want to make sure I know what they open at. What sends the signal to the solenoid to open?

ECU, it opens it according to the engine RPM.

Hi jack I assume stock ignition. It sounds like corrosion or faulty connector

Agree w/ Malin, connections are worth looking at. I had to replace the 3-wire connector on mine and also had to clean and resolder the servo itself due to corrosion on the board (salt abuse b4 I owned it). The servo wasn't hard to do but takes a touch of patience taking it apart and going back together. I sealed it w Chem-form afterwards to try and give it longer life.

Got with Barry Lee who steered me in the right direction. Start to open at 5800, full open at 6200. Diagnosed mine today, servo is erratic, sometimes not working at all. When the servo opens them, its open about halfway.

Swapped my servo with a servo out of my XLT. Apparently my servo has been bad since I had the ski. I never noticed a difference with my servo unplugged until I knew I had a problem with it. Wow...the valves opening correctly really makes a difference! I would suggest everyone with PV's check them occasionally for proper operation. New servo on the way.
