Thread: rusty dipstick

    rusty dipstick

    i have a 2015 fx svho
    get salt away washed every time and engine bay was aswell

    the problem i am getting is the oil dipstick is rusting

    and the down tube is rusting aswell
    inside

    i dont understand how this can be happening the dipstick is a tight fit inside the tube

    yikes... hows the condition of the oil? Encountered something like this before, but not as bad as this one! Problem was blown head gasket... Water in oil.. Check oil condition and see how it is..

    oil is very clean like brand new

    my oil is the same colour is the fay i put it in there and its been 25 hrs since its last service

    You sure that dipstick hasn't been left loose at some point In the past. Or put down somewhere wet then not cleaned properly and put back.

    yep im sure iv even put small amount of grease on the rubber to help seal
    did a comp test today
    cylinder 1 70psi
    cylinder 2 83psi
    cylinder 3 81 psi
    cylinder 4 105psi

    doing a leak test on thursday

    That compression readings aren't good at all. I've got 2013 fx sho I'm sure last time I did them they were all 120/130 psi off top of my head

    Agreed - those compression numbers warrant a re-test. It's not the low values more than it is the inconsistency in psi's. How are you doing the test? Warm motor, all plugs out and with a strong/charged batt, hit each cylinder with a shot of lube, WOT, and insure the compression fitting has a good seal on the sparkplug hole.

    The lube (oil) sprayed on top of the piston could potentially mask problems with leaking piston rings, no?

    My readings were done engine warm.
