    Dess key upgrade

I was looking for something and i swear i saw a kit that was fairly cheap that would change your old style key say 2011 to the newer style DESS key that is much easier to use..
but i cant find it now..
I have a 2011 GTI that i would love to upgrade to the newer style key.. does anyone know the part numbers?

What are you trying to accomplish? (may have an easier solution, depending..)

Anyways, Dennis with CanDoo is the man with the answers to this.

what you can do (hahahah) is use a code scanner to disable the DESS and then any DESS key with the magnet intact will allow the ignition to fire ( since when you eliminate the DESS the mpem remains unlocked )

there is nothing I am aware of that would allow you to install a part and accomplish this ( outside of the setup for the viper ecu)

The older style DESS key sucks.. It must be exact for the ski to start. When i have guest come ride its hard for them to get right to start. My 2017 is much easier

MaptunerX can disable the DESS function so any key will start it, but I believe he wants to keep the DESS but is interested in the newer style post and key setup that is easier to operate

once you eliminate the reading of the DESS key code, you'll find it easy to deal with.

The "tough" part for some folks is getting the key on the post at the same time they get they keys two electrical contacts to hook up

you won't have to wiggle the key or do any tricks ( assuming the magnet is still in good shape) to get eh ski started after disabling the DESS system with a coed scanner of some sort.

If they can't start the ski they probably shouldn't be riding it lol. But if it truly is a dess issue then you might just need a new key. They do tend to wear out over time.

    This.

While I hate the DESS "reading key..." crap, I had that a lot before I swapped out my original DESS key with a new one and haven't had any issues with "reading key"

So just buy a new OEM replacement key (and have it programmed) and call it a day.
