    HELP!!!! Fuel Pump Diaphragm Replacement

I've replaced fuel pump diaphragms in a number of 750 engines, but this one is from an 1100. Never saw one in such bad condition before. It appeared that the screws had never been out and the pump was original (almost 20 years old).

After seeing this, I'm going to go ahead and order a new pump for my Ultra 150, too.

The plot thickens! I'm doing the carbs & fuel pumps on two of my 1100s. The second one has a plate on the fuel pump, between the diaphragm and the carb body. The one that the above diaphragm came from doesn't, which may explain why the diaphragm is deformed so badly. The plate is not shown on the parts diagram. It shows the pump body, the diaphragm/gasket assembly, and the carb body, in that order.

I guess I'll take the other one apart tomorrow and take a picture of it and see if anybody has seen one.

Here are pictures of the plate that goes between the fuel pump diaphragm and the carburetor body. Not on any parts diagram I've seen. Anyway, I NEED one if anyone has some old, trashed CV carbs that are beyond repair. I have no idea what it's worth, but I'd give $20 for one. Send me a PM if you've got one.

    THANKS!

after 20 years of ethanol, its not a surprise to see this.

have you checked all the variations on the 1100s to see if perhaps this part was included at one time?

give mark at m/m marine a call..he might have a set of junked carbs laying around. I don't recall ever seeing that bit, biuut I'll survey the sets I have at the shop. Any chance that's an aftermarket bit to increase fuel flow?

    Thanks for the reply, Peter!

I've checked all the 1100 variations with the CV carbs ('98 & later). Apparently there was a change in the ZXi carbs in 2000, as the fuel pump body part number changed and they don't show the diaphragm as a separate part. I've looked at a bunch of CV carb sets on Ebay and they appear to have it (a shiny plate in the black fuel pump stack).

I believe the diaphragm was distorted so badly because it didn't have the plate to back it up. Notice that some of the small holes were ripped. The O-ring on the plate actually seals to the fuel rail. I wouldn't think that this is an aftermarket part.

For grins, here's a section of the parts diagram:

might have been an inline bit that never made it to the parts fiche (perhaps it was a "california only" deal?)

Don't know. It looks like every CV carburetor rack on Ebay has one. I just don't want to have to buy a set of carbs to get it.

Oh, yea, Peter, how do you contact M/M Marine? I did a search and I think half the marine places in the country are named M&M or a derivative of that.

I recently overhauled a 900 triple that had run lean. Only thing I found was deformed diaphragms like you posted. I have to assume the pump won't be as efficient and the mixture would lean out at higher RPMs.
