Buying private sale ski...water test or hose run?

The ski I'm interested in buying is winterized at a dealership. The person selling is going to have it dewinterized. They said they can take a video of it firing at the dealership. Would you consider that plus running on the hose when I go to see it good enough or should I insist on water testing it. It's cold here in Wisconsin so they'd want to rewinterize of I didn't purchase it. It's a 2015 rxt-x. Thanks!

Every ski shows its true problems on the water mate!! I suggest to insist water testing it. Dealer should also give you some sort of warranty for up to 6 months.

The dealer isn't actually selling the skis, the private seller just had it winterize there. The dealer is going to dewinterize for them. They also bought the extended warranty so it has a year left. But I'll insist on water test.

Do yourself a favor take it for a water test. A water test will put under a proper load and will show any leaks and squeaks

I agree. The hose test won't show any main issues. Water test will put the engine/pump under load and show issues (cavitation, pump, wear ring, rattles, cracks in hull)

A friend of mine has a ski that runs great on the hose, but a terrible misfire under a load.... Unfortunately, water test is the ONLY real test.

    water test or you walk.

    simple as that

if the owner is nervous, have him take you for a "scary good ride"

run it hard, stop for a few minutes, see how it starts run it hard again, see how it starts

bright flashlight to examine the pump

    engine compression gauge

    ask for service records

Water test and compression test. Please don't skip it, buy it and then start listing all the problems you are having and asking for help.

the last guy I have this advice too, drive 4 hours to buy the dam thing and skipped all the due diligence claiming "it was dark and I was tired".

now the dam thing is all torn apart.

yeah, it's getting old dealing with people who ask for advice, get lots of good advice, ignore the advice, then complain when they don't get an immediate professional response to their questions.

maybe the internet was better when you paid per minute..unlimited anything ( including strippers) gets tiring after a while....
