Removing Drive Shaft - Engine oil ??

Hi Guys... Just a quick one...

Do you remove engine oil completely prior to removing the drive shaft??

Or is the method explained in workshop manual sufficient ?? (rev to 4000 RPM for 10 seconds and kill engine while on 4000 RPM) ??

I don't want to spill any oil inside the hull....

    Thanks

Yes. But its vital that you mega clean the rubber boot and lip on PTO before you clamp it back together. You want to prevent the boot popping off while motor is running so...clean mating surfaces with acetone. Don't be tempted to use regular silicone sealant...

Not unless you plan to remove PTO. The crank center-line (PTO boot/lip) is pretty high above oil line.

    No... Not removing the PTO...

Will be doing that dreaded 2010 rubber covered shaft replacement/upgrade... Will then replace the PTO bearing/bellows while I'm at it...

But I just did an oil service less than a week ago... So don't want to spill the new oil
