    Burnt Valve? Any thoughts?

Anyone seen a 4tec come apart with this look before? It's bad enough that the cylinder was trashed because the previous owner apparently kept on taking the boat out until it no longer ran, then let it sit since last july like this. A good friend of mine just snagged this for a deal, came from an 08 Challenger 180 SE with the tower and all. Pretty sharp boat, especially for the price he snagged it at...

Looks like we are going with a reman engine, but we are all curious how this happened as we haven't seen burnt valves like this. Plans at this point are to have the injectors cleaned and flow tested, test fuel pressure, total fuel tank cleanout, etc.

    its not a burnt valve
I bet a chunk of piston got stuck in the valve and it broke
    lets see the piston
    bet its death by detonation

SBT has absolutely nothing to do with this... This was a stock 109hr factory engine from an 08 Challenger 180 SE... Maybe it's factory engines that are the problem then? Jump to conclusions much?

Definitely a burnt valve, just not sure why. The piston is all there. I didn't take a good picture of it because it wasn't notably destroyed. It is damaged of course, but i have seen detonation and this wasn't it.

I would snap another pic but i already snugged the bolts back down, this engine is going as a core return now... replacement long block ordered.

its just a burnt valve. piston has nothing to do with. My guess is you may have an injector issue, Ive only seen this a couple times...most of the time the piston melts.

Here is the piston of said motor. That piston is a lighter color than the others also like that cylinder was running hotter. The piston damage is on the exhaust side also.

Injectors are going to a shop for cleaning and flow testing for sure then. Thanks.

I think he means when you go with a new engine to stay away from sbt. I agree with that as well
