Pump Grease or Oil in cone?

As you can see from my pics below. No grease found in this upon removal. Very disappointing but going forward, have you guys moved to an oil product (hub oil maybe?)?

Or are you sticking with grease like the stuff in my last pic? Any benefit to running both oil and grease together? I thought I saw someone here doing that but wasn't sure if that's counterproductive.

If I stick with grease, is there any harm in filling the entire cone up with it as well as on top of the bearing (so that there's guaranteed lubricant hitting)?

My preference is to do I mixture of grease and gear oil mixed to a consistency of syrup - my 2 cents worth

Either mixture of marine grease and gear oil or straight gear oil . Pump grease alone isn't enough to protect the bearings when your front seal eventually tears and water gets into the pump

Good enough for me. I'll do the mixture and thanks very much for the advice. I'm on it.

I use low temperature grease, it flows better at lower temperatures.

The way I see it, if you develop a tiny hole in the seal oil will escape much quicker than grease. It might give you a chance to catch it before damage occurs. Plus no oil spilling to deal with when you're tweaking the impeller a bunch of times

I always run royal purple gear oil and never had any issues. I'll try and post a pic of which one later tonight.

75/90 royal purple because the dark purple lightens, whitens with water (if a leak appears).
