    2014 Yamaha FZR Timing Chain

I am new to personal watercrafts. I am looking into buying a 2014 Yamaha FZR with 29 hours for $8,000. I have read that there are problems with their timing chains. Major concern? Ways to prevent this? Upgrades? Look somewhere else?[-o

No worries!!! If you don't mind breaking down unexpectadely, licking you local Yamaha dealer assss to cover under warranty. Is there a time limit on when Yamaha will not cover, maybe just cover parts and not labor. Easier ways to save money find a different ski unless it has the 5 year YES warranty.

The 2016 fzr, is the way to go.
The 2016 has the updated timing chain and related components.

The 2014 & 2015 SVHO have had an issue with cam chains breaking. How big is the problem? Who knows. Some say 1%, others say 5%. The truth is; only Yamaha knows the real answer. And statistics is irrelevant if yours break.

Yamaha has been really good about covering the cost even out of warranty so far but do you want to roll the dice they will cover yours as well if it breaks? Only you can answer that. The cost of repairs is certainly not trivial. Expect a big bill.

A used 2016 will not add much to the price you have been quoted for the 2014 and then you can mod without worry. Jerry's Stage 1 really wakes them up.

    Best of luck.

When doing this, what am I looking for exactly? What dates are better than others?

I have a 14' still going strong 84 hard hours (knock on wood) and my dock is right outside my backdoor so I do 80% of my riding here on my local river where I even live right by the dam so upstream is my only way to go, let my chain snap on this river cause i'll just float home!

It's the handful of times I ride lake Michigan or my trips to the ocean where im all alone that im worried about the 14' and 15' issues
