Fold away tongue vs fold up tongue

    (1) Has anyone come across a fold up tongue?
thought that if you had a an extended tongue and you needed to garage store your pwc....
    (2) 4 ft of extended tongue would be easier strored in the "air" vs on the side of the pwc. Added legnth may cause operating issues within a small garage space. Your thoughts?

I have the Fulton hinge on my double trailer, an aluminum Triton Elite double.

In my case the extension is 3 feet long and swings easily to one side, folding back against the trailer frame. Very little wobble or slack at the joint when in use and towing.

I do not recall Fulton providing any info or weight rating for installing the hinge 'rotated' to allow for upwards swing on the extension portion.

Fulton does provide weight ratings for various lengths of extension when used with the hinge kit, check that to verify your long tongue will be within the rated range.

If horizontal tongue swing is a problem within your garage you might consider installing two hinges so the tongue can first fold back on itself and then fold again against the trailer frame.

you can get creative and just keep wiring outside the tongue and use two pins instead of a pin and hinge. pull the tongue totally off

I think the fold-away is better for storage, as the tongue tucks alongside trailer frame. The disadvantage I see is the swing-out clearance - as you'd operate it outside the garage.

Fold-up would work. Wouldn't need lateral clearance, but 4ft of steel tongue with receiver can have some weight to it posing a drop-hazard.

In either configuration, looking at your trailer pic above, you'll want to move the jack back towards the winch post.

Another option might be a slide-in/out tongue.
