    FX SVHO Ride plate mods

So I picked up a torn up FX SVHO ride plate for next to nothing, going to use a belt sander to clean up the main surfaces and take some of the scratches out of it.

Thinking of taking some meat out of the middle where the ramp is to lengthen and exaggerate it slightly to try get the nose of the ski up slightly.

    Any ideas welcome...

Shipping and exchange rate from Aus is too much and besides, where's the fun in that?

Does anyone know if a polished finish or a matt finish would have less drag?
SVHO plates are slightly diff to SHO plates so I'm expecting it to feel different.

    FX SVHO Ride plate mods

There is no fun in loosing performance... that's for sure. And if u sand it down u might do just that. Or make the ski uncontrollable at high speed. Been there done that got the t-shirt... get it to Jim since it cost u next to nothing. It's worth it.

I modified my FX SHO one myself. Shipping and exchange rate killed it for me also.
Deepen and extend the ramp, starting from half way, to max at the end. Triple check your clearances, as you don't wan't to break through.
The key to more speed is to angle the plate up at the back.
On the mounting side of the plate, you want to angle the rails between the front and rear bolt holes, with no material being removed at the front bolt holes, and the most at the rear bolt holes. Remove enough material so the rearmost casting bridges are just level with the rail.
If your ski porpoises, just add enough washers under the rear bolt holes until it stops.
I also chamfered the flat section behind the paddle wheel for less drag.
I used a circular saw with a fine blade on a triton workstation to do the ramp.
Cleaned it up with a hand file. A LOT of hand filing. The speedo section was done with hand files and sand paper.
I did the mounts with a linisher.

Doing all this increased my top speed by 5 - 6 kph. No kangaroo hopping.

Now that's constructive! Thanks for the detailed explanation, I'll be taking off bit by bit and testing it each step. Cheers mate!
