Intake grate ripped out at speed. What would you do?

Hey guys, the front intake grate bolt ripped completely out of the fiberglass yesterday at near wide open. The ski bucked and hooked hard right without warning. Luckily no one got hurt.

But I now have a quarter sized hole in the hull all the way through. So I could use opinions on what to do... file insurance claim, file warranty (doubt they will cover it), fix somehowClick image for larger version.

If OEM, take it to dealer for warranty repair. I you installed an aftermarket grate yourself you are on your own!

    Which is it?

I think it's safe to say your SeaDoo has it in for you.

You've have an IBR module failure, impeller (SOLAS) failure, engine failure, supercharger failure, IBR bolt loosening and now an intake grate failure.

Perhaps it's time to move on before it decides enough and enough and finishes you off once and for all!

The scuff further up the keel towards the stem, is it possible you grazed something at some point and damaged the grate?

Wow, you seem to have bad luck, this sucks!

Look like the brass insert pulled right through. I've seen the top part of these brass insets pop-off in hull (look at attached picture). Just look how thin the wall of the brass insert is!!! So maybe a combination of over tightening and popped-off top piece caused it to pull through.

It can be fixed (unless warranty/ins).

BTW: Too late now for you but I would suggest others use longer front bolts so it pokes into hole 3/8" then use a poly-lock nut on remaining thread (right now there is a round sticker covering top of the nut I posted). This can work on the '12-'14 hulls...not sure about the newest hulls with stupid liners.

Good idea...and also put a big ass thick stainless washer on it as well couldn't hurt.

Lol yeah just about everything that could go wrong has with this ski. But this I never expected. I put a lot of hrs on it and it spends the majority of its life at 65+. So no doubt I am very hard on my ski. I got no problem admitting that. It's sucks being that guy but what can I do. Most of the time it small things, sometimes not, some my fault some unavoidable. Comes with the territory. Venting on here and getting the experts opinions just help me avoid the issues in the future and I learn something in the process.

My main concern is that if I fix it and it fails again someone could get hurt. and then insurance will have a case to deny on top of that.

Warranty, I don't know if they can swap the hull since it is HIN'ed and titled even if they were to cover it. Don't know how that would work.

Fixing it a different way could lead to other issues and such. Plus the hole is so large that I doubt I could get the grate to align straight to keep it from pulling left or right.
