Water flow reducer washer, Yellow, Green, Etc.

Hi, what does the colored reducer washer really do to the water flow? Is it really needed and does it play an important roll?

They are for restricting the water flow inlet, 215hp and less is yellow, 255hp is green. There is a difference, green is roughly 1mm larger in diameter.

The yellow restrictor was used in the 215 models the green 255's (green is slightly larger for more water flow).
Yes a restrictor is absolutely required or the pump will force entirely too much water through the system and you'll lose speed for the larger amount of water not being used for propulsion. If you're not overheating or setting exhaust temp alarms the yellow restrictor's size is fine. I spent a lot of time changing hole sizes and initially tried a very large hole to push a LOT of water through the system but lost a lot of top speed. Popped in smaller restrictor and some speed returned, and am actually running a smaller restrictor hole BUT I've changed routing/lines/fittings so much my ic, hx, and exhaust are less restrictive than normal.
