2004 Yamaha FX ho mystery... Any guesses?

Paying a buddy's son to go pick up a 2004 or it might be a 2005 Yamaha FX ho in Dallas tomorrow morning. Taking a risk on it because it's only $1,500 but the seller says that recently it started to run really poorly and it has a trail of gas in the water behind it when it is floating on calm water. I am pretty much assuming that it is actually oil in the water coming out of the exhaust myself but I won't know until I take a look at it tomorrow. Mechanically, everything is an unknown on this one at this moment. No compression numbers at cetera.

My question to the group is what could cause oil to leak out of the exhaust or what could cause gas to leak out of the exhaust?

My gut tells me that someone overfilled the oil AZ we typically see and the oil is getting dumped into the exhaust and expelled. I'm not even certain how oil gets from the reservoir into the exhaust system myself. If it turns out to actually be unburned gas coming out of the exhaust somehow... That one I am absolutely uncertain how it can occur. Any guesses to leave me in the right direction? About 140 hours on this one.

Actually worst case would be dropped valve, broke through the piston top, damaged the head, then got spit out the exhaust. A broken piston will pump oil out the exhaust.

Cool, those things sound like a good direction to look if compression is no good. I'll check that and go from there. If it is good, then plugs and an oil change. If it still sux, ill break down the head and then the motor. Thanks!

As they get older corrosion in the water jacket could be causing an oil and water leak into the hull
The bilge will send it out the back
Could be something else to check
