05 rxt broken has tank strap hook

While I was finishing the wires for my VTS I realized my tank straps were loose , come to find out the rivets disintegrated , is the only way to fix them pull the tank and motor ? And are the rivets stainless or aluminum?

Petty sure there stainless. If you cAn get in there, I would get some good expoxy and re rivet it and also put some Epoxy on it . Six 10 is a really good epoxy

Give the staps a good tug, my rear strap was not loose but when I pulled on it a bit the hooks let go .

Same thing happened to mine. I removed the tank and replaced all the rivets, even the ones not yet broken. They were all aluminum, I also dipped the tails (the side you can't see once installed) in generous amount of RTV and after installed seal the heads. If the original ones lasted this long, sealing the new ones should be good a while.

Well I decided to address my gas tank today and I was able to disconnect the filler tube and fuel lines and remove air box and the front storage cover and I was able to maneuver the tank around enough to replace the strap brackets without pulling the motor.Click image for larger version.
