    GP123's GP1300R Build Thread

    Gonna try this again.

    I bought a 2003 Yamaha GP1300R Jet Ski on Valentine's Day 2016.

It came with a seized engine. Still think it might have been hydrolocked by previous owner who potentially got the ski towed by a friend in a boat while partying is my best guess.

When I pulled then engine out the jugs were stuck on hard there was dirt and sand in the engine cylinders and bearings/crankcase.

I have since cleaned everything out and started getting deeper into reading on these Green Hulk pages eager to make this thing perform better than a 2 stroke rental ski and not that much slower then some of the newer 4 stroke engine jet skis.

The body is in rough shape and the trim cables were broken many other bolts and hull parts were also saltwater seized and need to be replaced.

    TO DO:

custom build or order a Jetworx kit

custom pump tunnel reinforcement (using fiberglass sheets/resin)

custom make a leo style holeshot kit (possibly using fiberglass sheets/resin)

    strip ski of paint

    repaint ski

new/custom made intake grate, ride plate, trim tabs

    install AEM wideband sensor

    install EJK controller

install all ski running parts back on

    start ski

    check compression

    test and tune

Thanks to WFO keyway timing advance.....My custom d plate using factory cat flange and scrap metal welded by me today. It had some speed holes which will add windage hopefully it will provide a decent amount of turbulence and back pressure cause it's about half inch or so larger than a regular d plate.

I've never seen a deep fried fuel pump until this project..... The engine had a serious smoothie of wd40-rust Bigger than the pile of rust you see in the background.

Ski came with a seized pump, wear ring steel has a swollen rust spot and jammed the stock impeller.

So I replaced it with a HO DynaFly Style Pump courtesy of "Screamin'SLX" in the Carolinas thanks so much man great pump great seller has really good communication and turnaround.

I then went to local machine shop and had them open it up for removable wear ring.

An on going project of mine.... I rigged up a crankshaft bar stool from some scrap metal, welds aren't all that neat yet but it's pretty much there structurally. Bar stool spins along with crankshaft and has wheels at the bottom for functionality. I want to add structural support to the armrests and the foot rest by adding in some used camshafts.

Put in some elbow grease today. These are some of the good angles of the ski... less physical scrape/ damage. The trim cables were rotted out so they were replaced only to find out that the main trim line that runs through the hull is also seized.

Then began removing the rotten old hydro turf.

The ride plate in the rear has had all the bolts removed minus the back right rear bolt which is stripped in place and the hull seems a little swollen in that area... kind of concerning.

I removed the bolts that go on the front rubber bumpers but need to drill out the rivets in the other spots.

After removing pump I had some bolts break the heads off so I need to extract a couple there and one of the motor mount bolts also needs to be extracted.

My next goal is to strip down the ski and prepare it for primer and paint or possibly even plasti dip.

Actually going with with a different color not sure which yet.

Went for a ride this thanksgiving eve for the first time ever on a Yamaha FZR and it was a life changing experience to say the least and there is definitely a learning curve being that it was the third time in my life I've ever rode on a jet ski before.

It was all going fine I raced two boats and won. But I guess my arms were weaker towards the end of the day and the water was a lot rockier so I wiped out at like ~60mph or so (guestimate) also popping that cherry I was stuck in a rip current right after that and had to let the current get me closer to the ski and struggled to get on. I got back on and drove to meet someone up at the dock.

Im thankful for my health, my life, my family, friends and all the positive energy in my life. Wiping out was a huge eye opener and riding my first ever fast ski was one heck of an experience.

Updates to the GP1300R are small as I've been working a lot on other stuff. So far I've managed to strip paint on top and bottom of hull then cleaned inside hull area and drilled two holes on the stringers to relive trapped water.

I am also thankful for the GreenHulk.net community and the vast information and support.
