Splitting GP1200R hull / removing top deck

    Has anybody ever done it?

Have a GPRXP turbo conversion and everytime I look at it, the idea keeps going through my head!

Maybe to even cast the top deck in Carbon once removed too.

If it has been done, any pictures???...

its been done before but if you plan on riding this thing regularly I would highly advice against because there is a good chance it wont seal right when you put it back together.

They aren't meant to have 500 horse turbo Rotax engines in them - doesn't mean it can't be done!

Have you got any pictures of one split?

I don't think sealing it would be a problem, personally.. Rubber gasket with bolts every 6" or so..

i believe there is a couple threads on this. i think the guy used heat gun, and lots of chizzles/spaces and worked his way around over and over. to reseal he did exactly what you said, a rubber seal and bolts every 6". i have 2 spare hull at the house i was going to attempt this one day. if you figure out a good way let us know.

I've split an XPl myself a few years ago. That split really easy to be honest, was done in an hour.

The SMC of the GPR hull seems like it will be a right pain!

Just wanted some pics of a GPR hull actually split to get a feel for exactly where the epoxy is.
Loads of people claim to have done it, but nobody has any pictures.

Suppose I'm just going to have to bite the bullet..

I have never split one but have cut up a bunch. There is glue everywhere. Not just around the rub rail. Best bet would be to find another hull and slowly cut the top off yours in pieces grind away the glue and do the same on the new hull. Basically save the top off one and the bottom off the other. You can find the hulls cheap enough.

I've split a GP1200 hull and it wasn't too bad honestly. I bought a ski with a hole in the bottom then another that a tree fell on and smashed the top. Getting them apart is the hardest obviously. The epoxy they use is some tuff shit. We used a chisel and a heat gun and went slow. I used a 3m marine adhesive to put them back together and never had a leak or problem with mine. I don't have any pics as it was over 10 years ago. Good luck and take your time.
