Question about possibly buying a 2014 Vxr

have my eye on a 2014 Vxr. but my question is, that it was run in salt water, and I will not have it in salt water ever. does the salt water have any negative effects on the ski at all? it only has like 35hrs on it.

Mainly corrosion...if it wasn't maintained properly it will be apparent in the engine bay

I had a 2016, but sold it to my stepdad. I liked it but it was a little to expensive. need something used for under 7500 for next year. and the guy said he flushed it after every ride, and used CR-7 in the engine bay. I assume that helps with corrosion.

My "14" has 170 hrs on it which 165 hrs was salt water use. I flush as soon as we get back and spend at least 20 minutes or so washing and rinsing the entire ski and the engine compartment. Looks and runs brand new.

You should be able to tell if it's been taken care of. 35 hours is low. From what I learned here I'd always water test it prior to buying. Not just run on a hose. Compression test seems to be one of the main test that members here check. Did you ask if he purchased the extended warranty??

Look for a '13 they came in better colors

but seriously water test if you can I mean unless the ski was really neglected or wrecked it should be apparent whether it was taken care of or not.. 360 +hours of salt water on mine and you'd never know it ..

If the engine compartment is clean and you don't see pitting on the metal components of the jet pump at 35 hours you should be fine, especially if he was good about rinsing it out. I would insist on a good, long ride though...the 2014 and 2016 VXRs are totally different skis. I personally love my 2013 and it's great for what I want it for, but a lot of folks really don't care for the ride quality (in a word, it sucks). The VX hull was not designed with rider comfort in mind. On the other hand, that 2014 will beat the 2016 on the top end no doubt, probably off the line, and it's light enough you can really smack it around on the water if you've got a little weight of your own to throw around.
