SVHO timing chain explained by Yamaha

Bought a new non current FZ for a great price knowing about the timing chain issue. I was talking to the lead mechanic and Yamaha told him the reason the timing chains are failing is because the oiling port for the chain is too small causing heat stress on the chain. At lower cruising speeds the oiling port does not flow enough oil to the chain, and at higher RPM the oiling is sufficient. The mechanic told me as long as I it ride hard I won't have a problem! haha

The 2016 engine has a larger oiling port plus the wider chain to help with this issue. Can anyone else confirm this? I've seen the wider chain but what about the oiling port?

Thought I would share this with you guys.

So why didn't yamaha just issue a pip instead of replacing damaged parts with 2016 parts? I call BS.

Compare the p/n's of the block ( cylinder head ? ) which delivers the oil to the chain through the drilled oil port -- different p/n's may lend credibility to that theory - otherwise.......

I just checked the part numbers for a 2015 and 2016 block and cylinder head.....Same p/n's according to the microfiche

that's just another bs to me . if that was the case why did they upgraded the chain ? it will be way cheaper to increase oil flow by just adjusting the pressure regulator spring .
i don't buy into that crap.

Their lead mechanic is trying to safe face. Just another excuse in the long line of excuses for Yamaha engineers trying to cut corners and save money in production. Well it bit them in the buttocks.

I really don't think programming a machine tool to drill / route a relatively smaller Oil Port vs. a slightly larger one saved .01 in any production operation.
    ... probably not a valid theory -

Where as the timing chain is a know issue to Yamaha, I wonder if they will warranty a failed timing chain after the factory extended warranty has expired. Anyone know?
