    Question Cylinder head O-Ring

I'm probably getting ahead of myself here, but is there a particular way of fitting the red cylinder head cover without damaging the O-Ring around the spark plug hole?
I'm in the process of splitting my Virage 1200 down & have noticed that the O-Ring has been flattened under the cover & is therefore pretty much useless. Will heating the cover be the best way to fit this without causing damage to the O-Ring?
    Thanks in advance.

I have new O rings, but do I need to heat the cover before it goes on to stop splitting?

Make sure groove in head cover and spark plug boss outer diameter are cleaned and smooth, 400 - 600 grit sand paper would be good. Install o-ring in head cover groove, next apply grease or some soap to o-ring inner side and around spark plug boss, then gently press cover on head while rocking it a bit.

    Thank you so much.
I didn't want to kill the O rings by splitting them. The manual doesn't really state how to fit them & by the looks of this one - it's been done wrong & has possibly been part of the cause of my troubles now.
